Research was underway at the Indian Institute of Public Health (IIPH) in Hyderabad to test drones that can carry medicines, said Assistant Professor, Suresh Munuswamy. IIPH aims to provide a coordinated system where smartphones and drones will collaborate to aid public healthcare systems in India. The drones, thus developed, would carry medicines to areas rendered inaccessible due to floods or bad roads, especially after a natural disaster.
The research, in association with Japan’s National Institute of Infomatics, would address problems related to procurement of medicines, patient’s blood samples or even diagnostic reports. The researchers are working with various drone manufacturers across the world to come up with a fast, efficient and reliable way to transport medicines.
